How to Create The Perfect Nursery
Getting ready for a new baby can be an exciting and a nerve wrecking time. One of the most fun experiences you’ll have is creating and furnishing your little one’s new nursery.
At the same time, it can be challenging to make sure that the room is completely equipped and the space is as functional, fun and fitting for you bubba. There are many different elements that go into creating the perfect space for your bundle of joy, and keeping track of them can seem daunting.
If you find yourself feeling overwhelmed as you get ready to work on your baby’s nursery, don’t worry. We’ve got some tips and tricks ready to help make sure that your nursery is all ready for when you arrive home.
1. Choose a Style or a Theme
Having a central idea in mind can help narrow your focus when it comes to designing the space. This idea can be as focused as a single theme, like a jungle or whimsical theme. It can also be a broader concept, like a colour story or design style. No matter what you choose, it will help ensure that the nursery design is cohesive.
2. Shop for Comfort
You’re also going to be spending a lot of time in the nursery alongside your baby. Keep this in mind when selecting the furniture. A comfortable chair to sit in (for many many hours!) is a must. Arm support in the chair is also great for feeding. Better yet, a wingback style chair creates little built in head supports if you need to dose off for a few minutes. A side table is a must next to the chair to hold water glasses etc, and lastly a small footstool can an another level of comfort for you.
4. Plan for the Future
When it comes to nursery furniture, think long term. It’s easy to get carried away with newborn phase, but the last thing you want is to have to upgrade it every six months as your baby grows. Make sure that the rest of the furniture in your nursery will last you through your baby’s first few years so that you don’t need to re-furnish frequently.
5. Storage, Everywhere!
Babies need a lot of things! Clothes, nappies, books, toys, baby gear – no matter what it is, it all needs to be stored somewhere.
When you choose your storage, make sure that you’re not only choosing enough for right now but also for the future, as your baby grows and your storage needs increase.
6. Create a Checklist
Once you have a plan ready for your nursery, create a checklist of the things you will need. This will include the cot, bedding, feeding chair, changing table, storage solutions, dressers, bookshelves - the possibilities are endless, and having a checklist ready ensures that you won’t forget anything and have to rush at the last minute.
Most of all enjoy the experience! It is such a special time to be getting ready for your baby’s arrival, and worst case if they arrive early, or you just can’t muster the energy to get it all done - the baby won’t mind one little bit!
